Stairway to Heaven

The move is complete, except for all the awful unpacking. James and I are still ready to collapse under the exhaustion of it all, especially since we got to move ourselves in all that heat on Saturday.

Would you like to see the best thing about the new house, according to the cats?

That, ladies and gentlemen, are stairs. But according to the cats, it is a giant obstacle-course-scratching-post, with human feet-bait that run up and down it. They are in their kitty-glory. Moose has become a perpetual motion-blur since we let him out of the basement to run free. He’s all but feral now.

And, oh… The glorious, glorious windows with– SQUIRREL!

After a bit of exhaustion, and before a bit of a nap… (I do not have a black eye. I don’t know why the Hipstamatic App made me look like James taught me a lesson about how women should behave.)

The cats have staked out every single window in the house. If a window they want to sit in is not open enough for them to force their little bodies into it, they meow until someone runs in and opens it for them. Elephant is the worst offender. They’re now living like spoiled grandchildren, their every whim now being granted by no less than five people at any given point.

And! We got to spend a lovely Sunday with Michelle and Arune (below) while Nate and (a different) Michelle got married.

The ceremony was beautiful, Michelle was beautiful, the weather was beautiful…

It was everything a bride hopes for on her very special day. Including a series of semi-uncomfortable moments between James and Arune.

… We couldn’t ask for a better Best Man at our wedding. :) Once the dust settles, I’ll be super, super excited.

A Perfect Day.

Life can rough you up sometimes.

I’ve been popping into work 7 days a week lately, or I’ve been traveling, or I’ve been too exhausted to properly function. Chaos has been adopted as my full-time job. I’ve done this for a month and a half. And you know what? No, thank you.

I took today off– for real– and did exactly what I’ve been wanting to do for weeks now. I had breakfast (and a life-planning session) with Amy (of Amy Blogs Chow) and lunch with Rosa (the most badass bridesmaid ever to grace the history of Weddings, ever).

I updated the Wedding Site, and almost got a manicure. But that level of relaxation? You can’t just jump back into that. It’s too much, too soon; I’m not ready to commit!

I did acquiesce to sit on Amy’s new roof deck for a bit, though, the Chrysler building towering over us, winking down as we clicked away at our laptops, a sentinel of peace. The din from the traffic below was reduced to a light hum by the time it floated up to us. Heaven, guys. It was pure heaven. It was the kind of moment young girls move to Manhattan in search of, when the cityscape sprawls out at your feat, surrendering itself to your ownership.

Amy and I talked about writing and goals. Rosa and I talked about how shiny and happy and sun-Goddess-y she is now that her first year of Law School is under her belt.

I’m sure tomorrow, I’ll digress back into frustration and turmoil, to a degree. I’m sure I’ll come up with a list of things to complain about.

… Maybe not. Maybe instead, I’ll cling to today, in all its peaceful, serene glory. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

xo,

Moments in Motion.

Kristin and Ryan have a very cute kid. Every time I talk to Kristin, I thank her for having such a good-looking child. I’m a bad liar, you see, and constantly having to croon over an unattractive baby is more than I’d be able to do convincingly for someone who knows me so well. Jonas is a little ball of light and love and chubby-baby-cheeks, so it all worked out well, and nobody has to cry.

Did you know that 9-month-olds don’t sit still? Especially ones that crawl? I snapped easily 100 photos of the little guy as he scooted here (and pulled things off a shelf) and scooted there (and tugged things off the table) and scooted everywhere (tugging at the dog). When I say “He’s a little blurry” in the photos, what I mean is, “He functions as a little blur, as he scoots from here to there, tugging on anything his little fist can reach.”

Case study: He Found Out My Phone Has A Camera. (Rotate them yourselves, folks. I can only do so much on my lunch break. :) )

A Sampling.

It’s been a crazy month, and can someone tell me where May went?

I owe you stories and pictures. I have a day off tomorrow– full disclosure then. For now, a little something to whet your appetite.

Ricocheting from Manhattan

Hi. I just got back from a week-long corporate training in Westford, Massachusetts. I now have to spend 10 hours in my store today, before jumping on a 7am train home tomorrow morning, because I haven’t seen my family in a very long time, and in light of some certain developments… It’s time for me to spend a weekend at home.

I know posting has been light; I promise you that I haven’t been up to anything interesting, beyond learning how to Manage Conflict and drooling over PUMA’s brand manual for ’10-’11.

Photos. Stories. Maybe even my premiere video all some time next week. I hope. Until then, look at what Alice and Kyran and Maggie and Heather are up to!

All a Little Mad

OHMIGAWDIHAVETHEBESTNEWSEVER!

That’s as close as you’re going to see me get to being one of those brides.
Ladies and Gentlefolk– WE HAVE A VENUE!

James and I will be hosting our post-nuptial wedding day bash at none other than The Sans Souci of Sea Cliff. (Yeah, right, say that ten times fast.) You can take a look at all the loveliness of the place here.

It was recommended to us by my friend Michelle (who is marrying James’ friend Nate, who works at Marvel as the editor for Skottie Young, whose comic art is a big reason why I started dating James in the first place. Wrap your mind around that one). Nate and Michelle looked at the Sans Souci for their venue, but it was a little more intimate than their huge guest list could handle. So I thanked her kindly and booked it for myself. :)

James and I had looked at a couple other venues, but when we walked into Sans Souci, we both simultaneously got chills and waves of excitement. As soon as the venue manager told me that he’d happily track down two Hippopotamuses for me (a privilege I believe The Bride holds exclusively) the only other information I needed about the place was where to sign.

It’s not completely traditional, but that fact coupled with the venue’s willingness to let us produce the kind of event we want this day to be is what sold us on the space.

And what, pray tell, do we have in store for all of you?

Why, a Mad Tea Party, of course.

Brace yourselves, ladies and gents. In more ways than one, 11/11/11 is going to be a celebration for the history books.
